Through the years, commemorative U.S. silver dollars have been issued with a great variety of beautiful and stirring designs, but one of the most unusual design features is a quote attributed to the person being honored on the coin. In fact, there are only four such coins in U.S. history!
Each 90% pure silver dollar in this 4-coin set was a limited edition that was made available for only a short period of time and in restricted mintages. As a result, these coins have been out of issue for up to 20 years and are increasingly hard to find.
The coins honor a significant event or person in history, and feature an inspiring quote on the reverse. Finding just one of these coins is increasingly difficult, but to receive all four coins together in a single collection is truly a rare accomplishment! What's more, these coins are all Proof varieties, which are the highest quality coins issued by the Mint. The coins are struck at least twice on highly-polished silver coin blanks, and the dies are cleaned and polished frequently to assure the best possible strikes. The result is a frosted, three-dimensional image set against a mirror-like background.
