2010 PR70 Inaugural Strike Gold Buffalo Proof

In 2006, the United States Mint introduced a new gold bullion coin for collectors and investors - the American Buffalo Gold Coin. Struck in .9999 pure gold (24 karat gold), it is the purest gold coin in U.S. history and the first 24 karat gold bullion coin ever made by the United States Mint. The largest American Buffalo Gold Coin is the classic one ounce size. It is legal tender with a $50 face value. The gold weight and gold purity are guaranteed by the U.S. government and are displayed on the coin.

This coin is in Proof PR70 condition - the highest Proof quality possible. Proofs are the finest coins struck by the United States Mint. Each coin is struck multiple times under tremendous pressure to create three-dimensional designs and mirror-like backgrounds. Many collectors prefer Proofs because of their superior quality. All coins are graded on a 70-point scale, and the higher the grade, the better and rarer the coin. A coin in "70" condition is the best coin possible because it means that the coin is literally perfect with no flaws whatsoever. To achieve the near-impossible grade of PR70, the coin was struck flawlessly and was almost immediately graded and encapsulated to preserve its condition. The design of the American Buffalo Gold Coin is the same as the classic Buffalo Nickel that was made from 1913 to 1938. The Buffalo Nickel is one of the most famous and most beautiful coins in U.S. history. The obverse is a composite portrait of three chiefs: Iron Tail (a Sioux who fought against Custer at Little Bighorn and who was a star in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show), Two Moons (a Cheyenne who also fought at Little Bighorn), and John Big Tree (a Seneca).

The reverse features a stunning image of Black Diamond, a massive buffalo that became one of the most famous animals in America because of his appearance on the Nickel.
