  • 2006 Franklin Silver Dollar Scientist Proof

Product Description

Pay tribute to one of our country's true innovators with this 2006 Proof Franklin "Scientist" Silver Dollar. Scientist is a fitting title for Benjamin Franklin, a man who experimented with electricity, invented the lightning rod and established the field of meteorology.
The United States Mint honored Benjamin Franklin with this silver dollar on January 17, 2006, the 300th anniversary of his birth. It was one of two coins released that day honoring Franklin, the other being “Founding Father".

The 2006 Proof Franklin "Scientist" Silver Dollar features:

  • Beautiful design - recreates on its obverse a rendition of Franklin and his legendary kite experiment. The reverse of this coin, in a tribute to Franklin's role as a patriot and statesman, features a recreation of his political cartoon, "Join, or Die." The cartoon was published in his Pennsylvania Gazette on May 9, 1754.
  • Limited edition commemorative coin - sold out almost immediately at the United States Mint
  • Proof - in addition to the regular coins, the United States Mint also makes a limited number of Proof coins each year. They are struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images.
  • Philadelphia mint
  • Original government packaging - includes metal case, display box, plastic capsules and original certificate of authenticity · Measures approx. 1.49" in diameter
  • 90% silver content
